What winter actually does to a garage slab
Cars carry brine into the garage every storm. That salt-laden meltwater soaks into porous concrete, then freezes and expands in the pores during the next cold snap. Repeated over years, the surface spalls — that flaking, pitted top layer you see on older Connecticut garage floors.
The second problem is chemical: chlorides accelerate corrosion of any reinforcement in the slab and leave a white efflorescence bloom as they migrate out.
What to specify
A coating stops the mechanism by sealing the surface so brine never enters the concrete. For a Connecticut garage we specify a mechanically ground slab, a full flake broadcast for texture, and a polyaspartic clear topcoat.

Timing your installation
Fall is the ideal window: the slab is dry, temperatures are still workable, and the floor is protected before the first storm. Winter installs are possible in heated and attached garages, and polyaspartic systems widen the temperature window considerably for unheated detached garages.
Winter maintenance in one paragraph
Rinse the floor periodically through the winter so salt residue does not sit on the surface. Squeegee standing meltwater toward the door. Clean with a pH-neutral cleaner, never a solvent or a citrus degreaser. That is all a coated floor needs to get through a Connecticut winter looking the same in April as it did in November.
